Unit 3: Robotics & Art

Robotics & Art

Nowadays, it appears as though society continues to display excitement paired with fear in the sight of industrialization. However... many people argue that certain forms of industrialization are actually a form of self-expression. More particularly, robots. Robots are, now, the most common AND controversial form of industrialization.

People should always be pushed to pursue their dreams and express themselves willingly. But, where is the line drawn? This popular topic of 'robots' consumes the minds of various individuals as these industrialized objects become more and more visible throughout society. While, concurrently, many individuals worry that these highly industrialized robotics will begin to even replace the human race...

In the television series "Humans" it depicts a life filled with human-like robots that participate in identical jobs as humans, while also even becoming the newest additions to families. This tv series demonstrates the slow inclusion of robotic humans into society, and how their creation begins to takeover the jobs, and lives of regular human individuals. I believe that this television phenomenon illustrates the very prominent issue within the world...the inner cravings to maintain technological advances (robots), while simultaneously reassuring that humanity remains the superior race on this earth.

I greatly support the constant technological advances throughout the world in order to enhance humanity. In fact, I truly believe that these technological developments are apart of art and self expression. But, I do NOT promote any human-made creation that will ever replace our human existence. And, frankly, I think that if we continue along this path...eventually (even though, I do not know when), I believe that robots could have the ability to surpass the human race. If and when this were to happen...is when the development of robots separates itself from being a form of art.

  1. Hi Bella!
I mention the same controvercial feeling toward industrialization. On one hand I think robots are takeover jobs and include into human society. There are many people loses their jobs because technology can do the jobs at a much lower costs. However, I also support your conclusion that technology advance is beneficial and I think it’s also inevitable which we just need to properly find a balance.

  2. Hello Bella,

I really enjoyed reading your post, I thought your insight into this controversial topic was great. Perhaps what I found most fascinating about your blog was the picture with a doctor looking through a microscope. It reminded me of the DaVinci machine, which literally is a robot that performs surgery. This robot increases the likelihood of success for each operation it completes. However, the machine cannot function unless a human doctor is controlling it, and I think this is just one example, to relate it your argument, that technological advancements throughout the world should help humanity and not replace humans all together. Overall great analysis!

  3. Hi Bella,
I agree with your take on robots and their lack of humanlike qualities. While robots can be representative of life they can never fully replace the interactions that people have with one another and with the work that they create. I do think that advancement of technology is beneficial in some ways but in others I think that there is a peak where it only benefits the privileged and can actually contribute to oppressive systems.

  4. I really liked your post on this subject. Personally, it is scary to think about the industrialization of rpbots that are almost like humans. You never know what can happen there. Having hear of the "new self learning robot", that explicitly states that it will destroy humans is quite honestly uncomfortable. Why would people build such a thing?
